Fox Run sits high on Torrey Ridge, overlooking one of the deepest parts of Seneca Lake. With fifty acres of east facing vineyards on glacial soils, the winery produces a remarkable range of limited-production, site-expressive estate wines. For more than a century, Fox Run was a dairy farm. The first grapes were planted in 1984 and the Civil War-era dairy barn was converted to a winemaking facility in 1990– three years before Scott Osborn took over the helm. Working closely with winemaker Peter Bell and vineyard manager John Kaiser, the Osborn’s are dedicated to a program of minimal intervention winemaking. In 2012, Fox Run Vineyards became exclusively family-owned. Scott and Ruth Osborn, together with Kathleen and Albert Zafonte, Ruth Osborn’s sister and brother in-law, are setting the course for an exciting new chapter. Their acclaimed senior winemaker, Peter Bell, has overseen 18 estate vintages and John Kaiser, their vineyard manager, began here by developing the vineyards in 1984. Producing 15,000 cases annually, Fox Run Vineyards plantings include: Riesling, Chardonnay, Gewurztraminer, Lemberger, Cabernet Franc, and Pinot Noir.

FRChard 12Chardonnay

Production Notes: Fox Run has been making Chardonnay in the racy, zesty unoaked style since 1990. Stainless steel aged Chardonnays have gained a great deal of attention in recent years because of their inherent food friendliness and mouthwatering, juicy flavors.

Tasting & Pairing Notes: This Chardonnay displays Fox Run Vineyards’ trademark subtle melon, lemon and white nectarine aromas. In the mouth, this Chardonnay reveals its cool climate birthplace: it is creamy, but not leaden, due to bright acidity and moderate alcohol. It’s fresh and flavor-packed, with no distracting oak flavors. Food pairings that we especially enjoy with this wine include roasted poultry, cheese straws, mango salsa and spicy shrimp with tomatoes and capers.

FRSDR 12Semi-Dry Riesling

Production Notes: This semi-dry Riesling is the latest release of what has become one of Fox Run’s most renowned wines. The goal was to produce a wine with precision and clarity, full of cool-climate Riesling aromas and possessed of superb balance.

Tasting & Pairing Notes: Loads of tree fruit aromas, especially nectarine and tangerine, are found in this fragrant wine. The palate is perfectly balanced, with a soft yet zesty finish. The moderate sweetness makes this Riesling incredibly versatile. Lovers of rich, complex wines will find this wine highly cellar-worthy. Creates a flavorful combination with foods featuring soy sauce or ginger as well as creole spices and BBQ.

FR CFL 09Cabernet Franc/

Production Notes: Fox Run’s Cabernet Franc/Lemberger is their version of the two-grape blend that is fast becoming a Finger Lakes classic. The Cabernet Franc/Lemberger spent 15 months in a mix of French & American oak. We age Cabernet Franc largely in French oak as these barrels dial up the chocolate and spice notes we enjoy in this wine. Fox Run favors American oak for aging Lemberger as this wine benefits from vanilla sweetness and length which American oak lends.

Tasting & Pairing Notes: The Cabernet Franc’s floral perfume and soft mouthfeel act as a perfect foil to the more robust and jammy Lemberger. Enjoy this dry red with grilled meats, Provençal dishes, and good crusty bread. This succulent wine perfectly complements rare beef tenderloin, rotisserie chicken, pepper steak, baby back ribs, grilled portabellas and garlicky bruschetta.
